Our Inner Wheel Club of Madras South Story ....2018
Inner Wheel Club of
Madras South….. Yes,
that is how we are called ever since we came into existence in 1963 as the First Club of South India. Those
were the days where the elite and intellectuals, entrepreneur and
industrialists, and high profile professionals and business people formed part
of the clubs. 20 vibrant women, most of
them Anns of Rotarians ventured out to form the South Club with a Young
Chettinadu Mammi Annapoorni Veerappan
from the TI Cycles family took over the helm of affairs as the Charter
President. Joined her were other great
women of Chennai, May George, first
Civil Engineer of Tamil Nadu, Oligammai Veerappan from the business
family in Chennai and Suganthi
Muralidaran, gem from the Natella and Vummidiars linage. We are so proud to have our Charter Members
Oligi and Suganthi as part of our club till today as we are stepping into the 55th
Year of amazing friendship and Service.
Yes, this is the story
of resilience, women power, bonding beyond barriers and it is our story. Today, we take on us an amazing pride and
responsibility that the club has entrusted on us. We continue the versatility of the club with
which it all began.
No story begins without remembering its fundamentals and we
are just too lucky to have 2 strong pillars guiding us like a Kartha of a
HUF. Sita Lakshminarayana, a Sanskrit scholar, an amazing Carnatic
singer and above all a motherly figure to our members. Shanthi
Kannan, as many of you know as a PDC who is a tough task master, and not
many would know that she is an expert in Japanese translations and very good in
Igabana which she learnt in Japan.
Kon’nichiwa Shanthi! (Hello!)
This story is today lead by President Gayathri Ramadoss who has been a model and have featured
in Vijayashanthi Builders Ads and Vijay TV Home Maker Contests. We savor her
charm and elegance and continue to admire her beauty of soul that strives for
animal welfare.
You should see the beauty of hospitality of Shila Krishnan, the way she upkeeps her
home and personality and making us enjoy her beach holiday home. Hospitality is itself a great art and she
masters it with ease.
Over the years, we have mastered to maintain our members with
their love and friendship, dedication and commitment to the one goal of the club
- Friendship & Service
Ever smiling and Young Looking Anjana Vengatesh is not only a business entrepreneur, but also
enthusiast traveler. Miles and Smiles
that we spread makes our lives more meaningful.
Simple speaking and most modest Athirai Meenakshisundaram is a lawyer whose actions speak louder
than words. The silent charm and her
observation skills are par excellence and we admire her consistent contribution
to the club.
Our club is privileged to be blessed with plenty of talents
and the State ‘Kalaimamani’s add additional charm to our happiness. Kalaimamani
Girija Ramaswamy, Ex-Principal of Sanskrit College, Reputed Carnatic
Singer, most sought after Natuvagam at dance recitals and exponent in Harikatha
is a talent pool of her own. Another
Kalaimamani Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala is a renowned Bharathanathyam Dancer, Guru
and a thematic presenter and both of them are world travelers spreading the
beauty of music and dance to the world all over.
Not everyone gets to chase their dreams young, however, those
who are young at heart dare to be bliss catchers even after they become
grandmothers. Our very own Kalarani is a classic example as she
embraced dance with Atmalaya and started giving performances and also we get awestruck
to the way she carries herself and presents above the bar. Probably this is what Inner Wheel does to
us. Awakens the soul within.
Our story is filled with amazing grit and determination,
purpose and professionalism. Most
sought after WHO Research scholar and MD in Microbiology, Dr. Nalini Ramamurthy is a classic example of modesty mixed with
world class brilliance in her field of study.
Dr. Usha Rao, a Ph.D. in Bio-Chemistry is a
former Professor in Madras University and also heads the Research Wing of Raga
Dental College.
Sometimes personal experiences make us take one step forward
and contribute more than what we can actually do and this push comes from
situations that surround us.
Neela Govindaraj, an Ex-Banker, is today most
recognized Speech and Hearing Therapist supporting learning of hearing impaired
children and manages her own dealership with Siemens
The beauty of the story
lies in its reader. A book club enthusiast, voracious reader,
Doctorate in English, Dr. Meera Ramanathan is a visiting Professor in
US Universities and also a lecturer in LIBA.
As we excelled in the fields of art, science, education,
medicine, music and dance, we have the first of its kind Professional go-getter
in our club. Renu Maheswari is the first Personal Finance Certified Analyst and
Consultant in Chennai chasing her dream of making Women Only Workshops in
Chennai to enable them handle personal finances better and efficiently.
The story gets its charm when Inner Wheel transformed an
introvert woman into a golden President who ruled her rooster in her year of President-ship. It’s none other than Rajeena Magdoom, a Montessori trained teacher, multi-talented in
arts and crafts.
The story of our club gets misty (sweet in Bengali) with our
Radiant Golden President Rooma Bhowmick,
who is a lovely Singer and Dancer, and she leaves no stone unturned to make us
enjoy the Durga Puja Pandal during the Navrathri season.
Sanjuktha Dutta is not only a reputed Charter
Accountant, she also has a big smile and vibrant humour whenever she is part of
the club activities. Veena Kannan is a classical dancer who
gives performances regularly.
Sisters and Perfect hosts Viji Jinadas and Vasanthi
Mahendiran, who is a stock analyst stand as rock pillars of support to our
club.
Public Speaker, Politician and a Tamil Enthusiast, Singer and
script writer Vijaya Thayanban has
her special way of handling things and we feel excited whenever we see her in
News Channels. What makes us proud of
her is her extra ordinary networking skills and the amazing fund collection
efforts she took during her tenure as the Club President
Author, Poet, Blogger, IT Professional & social activist Umasree Raghunath is our social media
ambassador keeping us alive in our blog and creating the required branding to
our club
Sandhya Subramanian, tall in her posture, is equally tall
in her contributions to the Leprosy effected people in Vellore District and is
also a successful realtor. And she is
the live wire of our Anthaksharies (in-house song entertainments).
The story does not end here.
There are several other members who are excellent hosts, home-makers,
globe trotters, education enthusiasts, silent social service performers and so
on. We make great home makers, strong
professionals, enjoy our hobbies, extend
our helping hand, care for the needy,
love those near and dear to us unconditionally and at the same time raise our
voice and get onto real business if that is the need. Yes, we are the Women of Today, made over
the last 5 decades of our existence, to be stronger, brighter and everlasting……
What leaves behind are
memories and footprints and that is what we are busy making! Happy Inner Wheel!

MCN School - Awareness Session to Boys
WC of Madras south conducted a seminar for boys in MCN school T Nagar.
Speaker Arasi gave an excellent speech on changing of their mind set
towards women in the society as well as in the family. An awareness was
created among boys about treatment of girls and to lead a harmonious
and successful life. When we teach our daughters driving swimming etc
etc we don't train our son's to adjust and accept the successful women
folk ...which is the reason for many broken homes. THE NEED OF THE HOUR
