Rubella Awareness Campaign - Bhaktavatsalam College for Women

Today IWC of Madras South, Chennai Galaxy & Madras Cosmos conducted Rubella Awareness Program at Bhaktavatsalam College for Women, Korattur. Guest Speaker was Dr.Yazhini Ravi. Dist. Spl. Project Co-ordinator Arasi also spoke and students enjoyed her talk. All the students were very attentive and clarified their doubts. President Sahira also spoke about the importance of getting vaccinated against Rubella to the students.

Medical Treatment support to an infant undergoing Bone Marrow Transplant

During our club annual official Chairman's visit on 12 Nov 2014,  an appeal was raised by Fort Club that a baby is suffering from unfortunate C and needs medical help to support undergoing Bone Marrow Transplant shortly.  The donar to the child  is her elder sister who is just 9 years old.  

In a gesture of support, 2 of our members came forward immediately (Sanjuktha Rs 10,000 and Kusum- Rs 1000) and we were able to give on behalf of our club Rs 11000 to the needy child and her mother who were present that day.  All clubs put together were able to pull together Rs 51000 for this cause and hope there will be more donars coming forward to help this family and the child to come back with good health

IWC Madras South is always proud of its members who come forward with their support both in cash and kind, in effort and understanding that makes this first IWC in South India stand tall in all its activities

District Clubs Limb Donation Camp at Polambakkam Village

Thank you Kusum for donating Rs.5500 for the wheel chair donated to the district as part of the Limb Donation Project of the District in Polambakkam Village.Cheque to dist treasurer on 6th and wheelchair donated during district clubs  visit to Polambakkam on 12th along with District members.

The Assessment Camp for the physically challenged relating to limbs was conducted at Pollambakkam 

Village on 31st staff. District Chairman, Secretary, ISO and myself were present. Local assistance was rendered by the   United Services Squad and excellent arrangements were made by them.

As per survey, there were 40 challenged in and around the village of which 27 attended the camp.16 

were assessed for need based gadgets totally numbering 17 as detailed below.

Tricycles 5 N0s each costing Rs. 6500 amounting to Rs. 32,500

Wheel Chairs 4 N0s. Costing Rs. 5500 amounting to Rs. 22,000

Left side KAFO 3 Nos Costing Rs.5500 amounting to Rs 16,500

Modified Foot wears 2 Nos. Costing Rs. 850 amounting to Rs 1,700

Bil. Knee crawling shoes 1 No. Costing Rs. 850 amounting to Rs. 850

Bil. Auxiliary Crutches 1 No. Costing Rs.950 amounting to Rs. 950

Left side trans Humeral Prosthosis costing Rs. 8500 amounting to Rs. 8,500

Transportation expenses Rs. 5500 and other project expenses like providing food for the recipients, 

volunteers and momentos for the Dr. And his team Rs. 11500

And as this is the joint project of the clubs I seek participation from all the clubs at the earliest as  October 12th
 Dr. Sundar Subramanian of Freedom Trust and his team of dedicated  has been fixed for distribution of gadgets .
 October at Polambakkam Village.

Gastroentetris Health Camp for Transport Department workers - 7 Sep 2014- @ Adyar Bus Depot

Gastroentetris Health Camp organised by Rotary Club of Madras South, jointly with Inner Wheel Club of Madras South, at MTC Bus Depot in Adyar on 7 September. This is a unique and first of its kind project organised by Rotary in this part of the world.

 

 

 

Our own Rtn. Dr. G Prabudoss lead the camp with his team of doctors. The General Manager of MTC - South Zone was present and he took special interest to personally supervise the camp. More than 100 drivers, conductors and other employees of MTC benefitted from this camp.

Our Club will orgnise this camp again, in other MTC Bus Depots in Chennai, in the first Sunday of the next months.

Eye Camp at Olcott Memorial School, Chennai held on 26 June 2013 and followup on 18 Sep 2013

Every child is a future to this Nation and Vision of life springs from the perfect vision to see this world.

Eye care is taken for granted and most of the children do not even complain that they are not able to see what the teacher writes on the board and starts copying from the child sitting next to them.  Most of the children show sudden signs of fall in grades, and parents hardly recognise the problem with their eye sight.
Though there can be parents and children who recognise the core issues of blurred vision, headaches and loss of clarity in sight as eye problems, affordable eye care becomes a distant dream for many of them coming from low income groups.   Hence the need arises to identify those in need and support them.. so that every child is able to view this world the way it has to be.

Inner Wheel Club of Madras South was keen to help atleast a section of the society by doing a eye camp with support from Shankar Netralaya Foundation, Pammal, under the able guidance of Dr Adithya and his team of young doctors.

The camp started at 10 am on Wed, 26th June 2013 at Olcott Memorial School, Opp to Shastri Bhavan, Besant Nagar, Chennai-90 , phone no 2415826 and managed to test more than 100 children on the same day.    This was one of the last projects completed for the great Golden Jubilee Year 2012-2013 under the able President Rooma Bhowmick and full support from PDCs Shanthi Kannan and Sita Laxminarayana.

A Followup meeting was held in Sep 2013 to provide spectacles sponsored by Rooma during the Presidentship of another able Stalwart Kalarani and support from other members including Renu Bhusan, Kusum Gupta, Kala Rajasekhar, Umasree and team.   Children were given specs and training to have good eye care and Dr Sita and Dr Omprakash from Shankar Netralaya, Pammal.
