In Uma's words:

Spoke on mental illness recovery, rehabilitation, post recovery acceptance, employ-ability and urge to stop branding, calling for compassion and empathy today at The Banyan in Mogappair West,Chennai addressing our fellow Inner Wheel friends and people from several homes in the city catering to the needs of mentally ill. Sharing the stage with IWC Dist 323 Chairman Padma Preetha and renowned Pianist Anil Srinivasan - The Madras Pianist was a moment of pride and honour.
There is a dire need for acceptance of mental illness as any other illness and supporting treatment, rehabilitation and showing compassion and giving them equal opportunities to lead a normal life post recovery in our society. In this era of Cognitive technology and Artificial Intelligence, we still shun those with mental illness, treat them low, kill their self-esteem and hurt their self-respect. Even in this century, where the world is heading towards technological revolution, we don't stop from our primitive ways of addressing mental illness, belief in tantras and conventional style of handling this. The society still ignore, loves to be inside its own veil of untidiness created by the chaos of the modern society, neglect the symptoms, delay treatment, destroy acceptance and overall makes mental illness still a stigma. It is time to raise our voices for mental health insurance and better medical facilities, vocational and psychological rehabilitation and support those around us who need Support.
Thanks Arathi Narayanan for this opportunity. You guys did an amazing job today.
May this World Mental Health day, bring in peace, health and happiness to you all. Stay blessed. As Anil mentioned, Life is beautiful. Make it more merrier!
